Monthly Events

Greetings from the Salt Marsh Nature Center!

What incredible weather we’ve been having making it a perfect reason to come out and visit us at the Salt Marsh.

October is more than half way through and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down.  We are at our peak for school tours and are booked for the fall and already getting booked for the spring!  On another note, the Marine Park Civic Association’s Annual Halloween Walk was a success with thousands of people lining up and walking through the “Halloween Trail.”  MPCA was in full force and did an excellent job in pulling off the event, as did the numerous amount of volunteers, Nancy Melissas from Parks and M & O.  NYPD also made a strong presence.  Thank you to all for a fun filled day that brings our community together and makes us happy to be a part of!

The I Spy Nature Program started on 10/14.  We are full!  Thank you to Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein for her support, and to Urban Park Ranger Volunteer Natalie Manzino for her time in making it such a great program!  We’re already having a great time.

For November we have more great programming coming up.  Tap and Line Dancing for Adults will be returning on Wednesday mornings at 10am.  Volunteer Gail Sullivan from the Brooklyn Dance Center will be back.  Many people have been anxiously awaiting her return.  The Marsh provides a lot of great volunteer based programs including Yoga, Woodworking, Photography, Pilates and the Zen of Seeing and Drawing.  All our programs are free and some only require that you bring a mat.

Our History Club will focus on NYC and NY State Politics and Politicians, our Monday Night Lecture on the Galapagos Islands, and our Saturday Night Live will feature the fabulous and entertaining Brooklyn Storytellers.  Please check out our calendar.  There is a lot going on at Ft. Greene as well, with Colonial Cooking, a Prison Ship Martyrs Centennial Memorial Weekend and more than eight hikes/tours in Prospect Park. For all tours please remember to dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.

As we approach the beginning of the Holiday Season, and most importantly a time of thanks, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the people who help make the Salt Marsh Nature Center such a great place.  (There are so many of you!)  Thank you to our Park’s family, volunteers, civic organizations, the community, city agencies, local officials, patrons, teachers, students and partners.  We are blessed to have so many great and wonderful people to work with.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by e-mail or directly at the Center at 718-421-2021.

Happy Thanksgiving and many blessings to you,
